Street Talk: Another path to finding a job
Hewitt can do it - Denver's Richard Hewitt grew so frustrated with to process of job-hunting, he devised his own methodology to help others with their searches.
And he makes this bold claim: "When people are using this program, they'll know from the outset when they're going to get a job offer."
He founded High Impact Career Products (www.impactcareer.com),
and the Colorado School of Mines is doing a nice thing
for its students and alumni, offering them free downloads of Hewitt's program.
"It offers an alternative to conducting a job search beyond the traditional sending of a resume and cover letter, and waiting and following up," says Ron Brummett, director of the school's career center.
For $100, Hewitt sells a package that inclueds a DVD, CD, software and guidebook.
Hewitt markets his product to colleges—Mines is the first customer in this niche—job-seekers and corporate outplacement entities. He has worked at Amoco as a geophysicist, the National Science Foundation and US West, among other places.
Basically, Hewitt advocates that people take a more educated, specialized marketing approach in their job hunts. In summary, he suggests researching companies, learning their problems and telling them how you could be the solution.
