COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES FIRST IN NATION TO PROVIDE REVOLUTIONARY JOB FINDING SYSTEM
April 27, 2006 - Golden, Colo. - Building on a century-long tradition of innovation and problem solving, the Colorado School of Mines announced today that it will immediately begin providing students and alumni association members with a job-finding system that breaks with tradition by teaching job seekers how to secure a position by researching and solving business problems, rather than relying solely on resumes and networking.
"The School of Mines has an international reputation for teaching students how to attack problems and develop innovative solutions. Offering a different approach to help students land great jobs is a natural extension of that educational philosophy", says Ron Brummett, Director of the CSM Career Center.
Job seekers need to know more than how to prepare a resume and what kind of widgets a company makes. That's where the High Impact Job Search™ system comes in. And it does so without relying on resumes, traditional networking, or even chasing job ads.
"High Impact Job Search provides a roadmap, a simple nine-step program that leads anyone to that ideal job. The program flies in the face of traditional job hunting, yet seems so obvious. Each step has that 'why didn't I think of that?' quality, and stringing the nine steps together reveals a simple path through the murky world of job hunting", said Bevan Rogers, a May 2006 Mines graduate.
The innovative system was developed by Mines graduate, Richard Hewitt. Frustrated with his own inability to land a job despite numerous academic degrees and workplace successes, Hewitt applied his Operation Research training, the science of analyzing and improving processes, to develop a system anyone could follow, one which put the job seeker in control.
This system has been wildly popular with students and alums alike. Tom Holloran, a two time Mines graduate (1972 and 1975) said, "Job search can be confusing and stressful. This is especially true in IT where salaries have been compressed, opportunities reduced, and skills are frequently viewed as commodities. High Impact Job Search removes the confusion, second-guessing, and stress that comes with job search. It gives job seekers a way to set themselves apart from the field and show what they really have to offer. And what employer doesn't crave applicants that understand and can describe their direct value to his/her organization?"
"We're excited to partner with High Impact Job Search because it fills a void that many of us in alumni relations have, which is the ability to adequately serve those in our alumni community who may need help in their job searches. High Impact Job Search gives people the necessary tools to appropriately self-direct their own voyages of career discovery. This program is well thought out, logical in construction, and unique. I know that it will have a positive impact on our alumni's job searches and, hence, their lives", says Anita Pariseau, CSM Alumni Relations Director.
